  1.  Training on Data Management for Researchers with Ongoing Health Researches - August 19-21, 2019

The Training on Data Management for Researchers with Ongoing Health Researches is scheduled on August 19-21, 2019, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the DOST Regional Office VI, Training Room. The training aims to assist researchers with on-going projects in data management, which include data collection, instrument formulation, data encoding, data processing, data interpretation, and data presentation.

  1. Workshop for the Preparation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Research Ethics Committees - August 27-28, 2019

The Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) in cooperation with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) will be organizing a Workshop for the Preparation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Research   Ethics Committees on August 27-28, 2019 (venue to be advised). This is a follow-up activity to the previously conducted Basic Research Ethics Training last April 2019. The activity aims to assist institutions who are planning to establish their Research Ethics Committee in developing their Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

  1. Training Workshop on Qualitative Research Methods for Health Researchers - October 15-18, 2019

The Training Workshop on Qualitative Research Methods for Health Researchers is scheduled on October 15-18, 2019, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the DOST Regional Office VI Training Room. This four-day training aims to equip health researchers in the region with the fundamental elements of a qualitative approach to research and its application in health research. This training will involve lectures, a review health research studies that demonstrate different qualitative research methods, fieldwork, and presentations.

DOST-PCHRD Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products

 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippines Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the DOST-PCHRD- Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products.

The DOST-PCHRD Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products provides fund support to all undergraduate students who will conduct their thesis on natural products. The program aims to sustain a research culture in natural products to increase the number of research and later on build a pool of researchers/experts specializing in the field. The program supports the Drug Discovery and Development program of the DOST-PCHRD which aims to develop safe, effective and affordable alternative drugs from the country’s natural resources.

Thesis grants will be given to 2 undergraduate entries per region. After completion of the project, a competition will be held to selected qualified students to recognize innovative work on natural products.

Deadline for submission of nominations is on May 17, 2019

The Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC), through advocacy campaigns and institutional visits, continues to push forward the efforts to let it be known that researches aside from dissemination and publication, must be utilized to come up with patents, products, policies as well as to improve people services. The WVHRDC-RUC Chair together with the consortium secretariat and REMB staff visited the following institutions during the 1st Quarter of 2019:

  • University of San Agustin
  • Colegio San Agustin - Bacolod
  • St. Paul University Iloilo

The WVHRDC will continue to conduct these kinds of activities to further inform member institutions of the opportunities and programs offered by the consortium.

ILOILO CITY - The Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) in partnership with the Western Visayas Consortium for Energy, Industry and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) conducted the Training on Basic Ethics last June 18-19, 2018 at The Medical City, Iloilo. It was participated by a total of 16 participants from member institutions of both WVHRDC and WVCIEERD.

Day 1 of the activity started with an opening message by the WVHRDC-REC Chair, Prof. Ma. Pilar S. Malata. Thereafter, the lecture proper began. The first lecture series was conducted by Dr. Ricardo M. Manalastas from the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) and each lecture topic discussed was followed by a workshop. Included topics in his lecture were the Introduction to Ethics in Research and Scientific Soundness. Following the lecture of Dr. Manalastas, Dr. Angelica D. Francisco also from PHREB started with her set of topic discussions and workshops. Among the topics discussed were Principle of Beneficence and Non-Maleficence, Principle of Respect for Person: Informed Consent and Principle of Justice.

On the 2nd day, Dr. Manalastas discussed about Social and Behavioral research, International Controls, National Controls and The Ethical Researcher whereas Dr. Francisco lectured on Conflict of Interest, Institutional Controls and the Review Process.

The WVHRDC Executive Director, Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer awarded the certificates to the resource persons and facilitator and subsequently closed the activity with a message.
