The Department of Health Center for Health Development Western Visayas (DOH CHD WV), Chair Institution of the Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC), will conduct a Regional Research Dissemination Forum on July 23, 2013 at the Punta Villa Resort and Training Center, Arevalo, Iloilo. This activity aims to promote sharing and dissemination of health research outputs among government and private research  and academic institutions, local government units and national government agencies.

The Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) has identified ten priority health research agenda for Region VI from years 2011 to 2015 in which we can develop health policies and programs using evidence-based information from systematic studies of the health system to improve the quality of health in the region.

To further enhance the effort of WVHRDC in fostering the pursuit of health research and development activities, the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) is providing a Regional Research Fund (RRF). This fund is a tool to encourage new researchers to be actively involved in health research activities without having to compete with more experienced researchers. The experience obtained from implementing simple yet relevant health research projects is expected to build up capabilities of individual researchers in designing and implementing health research projects.

This year, the WVHRDC is pleased to announce the call for Research Capsule Proposals. This is offered to the regular staff and faculty members of the WVHRDC member institutions (medical and paramedical schools, hospitals and other health related agencies) who have experience in research proposal making and presentation and seeking funding assistance to their proposed research projects. See downloadable Guidelines for proposal submission. The deadline of submission of capsule proposals to the Consortium is on April 3, 2013.

On December 3-4, 2012 at Planta Hotel, Bacolod City will host the 17th Annual Convention of the Natural Products Society of the Philippines (NPSP), the theme "Tapping Nature's Potential: Methods in Natural Products'Research." The convention will be the biggest gathering of natural product researchers from academe, government, and industry in 2012 and will highlight methods in analytical chemistry and biotechnology, innovations in the sugar industry, and opportunities in the organic industry. As a pre-copnference activity, a seminar-workshop on Research Methodologies will be held in the afternoon of December 2 by the NPSP and supported by the Department of Science and Technology VI. The seminar-workshop is geared to provide the participants a fresh perspective on natural products based on industry responsive research and sound scientific methods. The activity also aims to help local scientists design and pursue relevant research work despite limitations in equipment and facilities. A critiquing session of selected research papers shall cap the workshop and will provide participants the opportunity to be mentored by a pool of experienced researchers.

The Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) invites submissions to the following Consortium projects for year 2012:

Capsule Health Research Proposal

This is offered to regular staff and faculty members of the WVHRDC member institutions (medical and paramedical schools, hospitals and other health related agencies) with experience in research proposal making and presentation. Applicants may submit proposal(s), properly endorsed by the head of the agency. Likewise, medical residents of hospitals may submit proposals provided that he or she will be working under the supervision of a more experienced researcher affiliated in the same institution.

Training Awards in Health Research for Region VI Scholars 2012

This is intended primarily for new researchers who are interested in carrying out health research in Region VI. This is a training with two parts. The first part is the training of scholars on research proposal making. Those successful in receiving a research implementation grant moves to the second part which is research project implementation.  This training is on its second year of implementation.

All research proposals must be in line with the 2011-2015 Health Research Agenda set by the WVHRDC. The deadline for submission of application is on June 29, 2012, 5:00 PM.

Please coordinate with the WVHRDC Secretariat: Ms. Erell Feb Germia at telephone numbers (033) 320-0907 / 508-7183 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. regarding this matter.
